A commission is simply art made to order.

You already do this. A tailor takes your measurements instead of selling you a shirt off the rail. A carpenter builds the wardrobe to fit the wall rather than the wall to fit the wardrobe. A commission is the same arrangement with an artist: instead of choosing from what exists, you say what the space needs and an artist makes it.

Nothing about it is grand or ceremonial. Most begin with a photograph taken on a phone and a sentence like “this wall is too empty and the room gets very hot light in the afternoon.” You do not need to know the medium, the size, or what you want it to look like. That is the work we do with you.

It is also not more expensive than buying. The artist sets a price for the work before anything is made, and you agree it before anything is spent.

When a commission is the right answer

• The wall is an unusual size
  Nothing on sale fits it, and a small work on a large wall looks like an apology.
• The room has a palette
  You want the work to belong to the room rather than argue with it.
• It is for a particular occasion
  A house-warming, a new office, a wedding gift, a memorial — where the meaning matters.
• You need several pieces to agree
  A lobby, a corridor, twelve hotel rooms — one hand, one direction.
• You have seen an artist you like
  And want something of theirs made for you rather than whatever is left.

What people usually want to know

• Is it expensive?
  It starts where our gallery prices start. You tell us the budget you have in mind and we propose what is possible inside it — nobody is shown work they cannot buy.
• How long does it take?
  Four to ten weeks for most single works, depending on medium and size. We tell you the date before you commit, not after.
• What if I do not like the concept?
  The deposit is returned and no work is begun. You approve a direction before an artist starts.
• Do I have to know about art?
  No. Describing the room and how you want it to feel is enough — the rest is our job.

Honest lead times.

Paced by the artist. A mural painter grinds pigment for four days before the first line, and that is not a delay — it is the work.
